This week’s Single of the Week is “Lights & Music” by Cut Copy. Cut Copy is a band from Melbourne, Australia. Their sound, often labeled as indie dance and/or electroclash , draws considerable influence from 80s new wave and post punk genres. The band describe the track as “a trans-galactic voyage featuring epic synth breakdowns and more than a sprinkling of Goldsworthy magic.”
This week’s Single of the Week is “Love Don’t Live Here” by Lady Antebellum. Lady Antebellum is a trio from Geordia that’s just about to release its self-titled debut. Ostensibly a country music group, the harmony-rich trio plays a warm mix of heartland-style rock on this weeks Free Single of the Week.
This week’s Single of the Week is “Cheap and Cheerful” by The Kills. The Kills are an indie band formed by vocalist Alison Mosshart and British guitarist Jamie “Hotel” Hince. The group’s minimal punk sound has shades of 60s biker chic in their image, while their music is a mixture of PJ Harvey, Jesus and Mary Chain and the indie blues of Royal Trux. This week’s Single of the Week is Mercy by Duffy. Duffy has quickly become one of 2008’s most exciting musical figures in the U.K. The sound on “Mercy” is one that’s out of time - glassy go-go soul with smoky undertones of regret. The young Duffy takes centerstage and does her best Dusty Springfield. It’s a finger-snapping Motown groove with some white-hot soul power underneath.
This week’s Single of the Week is “Paradise” by Ana Serrano van der Laan. Ana Laan was born in Spain, but grew up in Sweden. Her sweet, sublime voice spins gentle melodies in both Spanish and English, as evidence in this track “Paradise”. The track has a light rhythm but Laan’s voice is the true highlight. This week’s Single of the Week is “11h30″ by Danger. French newcomer Danger brings together glitchy pop with hard-hitting power chords and tone-pitched vocals. The quartet known as I Nine from South Carolina first came to our attention when they were included on the soundtrack to Cameron Crowe’s film Elizabethtown. This week’s Single of the Week is “Hometown Glory” by ADELE. ADELE is an English singer/songwriter, who is a more melow version of other female London artists such as Lilly Alen and Kate Nash.
